14 Ottobre 2024 - Aula Anni (F8)
Lunedì 14 ottobre 2024, alle ore 15:30, in aula “Anni (F8)” il prof. Antonio Condorelli, Università degli Studi di Napoli & INFN Napoli, terrà un seminario dal titolo:
Current Understanding of the Highest-Energy Particles in Nature
In the era of multi-messenger astronomy, ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) provide a unique window into both the nature of extreme astrophysical environments and particle interactions at energy scales far beyond those achieved in terrestrial accelerators. This review will cover recent advancements in our understanding of these cosmic messengers, focusing on the energy spectrum, nuclear mass composition, and anisotropies observed in UHECRs. We will discuss two possible astrophysical scenarios to explain their origin: cosmic ray acceleration and propagation from both steady and transient sources. Additionally, understanding the broader astrophysical context, such as the influence of starburst galaxies and galaxy clusters, will be essential to complete the picture of multi-messenger cosmic ray studies. Finally, the role of the KM3NeTexperiment will be highlighted, including its contributions to identifying potential sources of UHECRs. The detection of the brightest neutrino ever recorded offers new insight into these extreme environments.
